Ursula Lotzkat and Craig Norman decided that it was time to paint the
interior of their 1975 bungalow located on Knollwood Golf Course in
Granger.
And the end result was an extensive remodel of the kitchen and main
floor living area that will take them through their retirement years.
They wanted a relaxing, warm and inviting living space that works for
them, as both Ursula and Craig work out of the home.
The project included new granite countertops, two-toned wood cabinets
and a full size cook top island in the kitchen area, as well as new
wood flooring, windows and mudroom.
“We just love the house and the location, but knew that there would be
issues that we would deal with in our senior years.” One in particular
was the laundry located in the basement. And the kitchen always looked
cluttered with shoes, coats and stuff because there was no defined
mudroom. So after much thought, they decided to contact the contractor
who managed their basement remodel, Peacock and Company. Designer Jenny
Hemsworth from Peacock and Company met with the homeowners and listened
to their “wish list” of changes they would like to see.
“We had no idea what the final result would be and every day was a
great surprise. There were things that Jenny saw to improve the space
that we had no idea were possible. Craig and I are still in awe with
her vision and the end result of the project.”
Ursula offered these suggestions to any homeowner thinking about a home remodel:
• Trust the contractor that you’ve chosen. Go with their
recommendations as they have the experience and have “been there”
before.
• Have the flexibility to change. New opportunities come along as the
project progresses and opens up even better living space options.
• Look for a contractor that offers interior design expertise. “It was
great to have a designer to work with that helped narrow the many
choices to be made. Jenny had the knowledge and expertise to know what
works and what doesn’t when out shopping for fixtures and accessories.
It was great to have her there to nod ‘yes’ or shake her head ‘no’ when
selecting the fixtures for the new space.”
Ursula adds that they have been extremely pleased with the workmanship
and customer service that Peacock and Company has provided throughout
the project and afterward. “If there is anything that needs attention
after the contractors have left, it gets fixed right away – with no
hassles. And, their price is what it is – no after-the-fact surprises.
They are definitely at the top of their game. All of their crews,
demolition, cabinet, flooring – were friendly, cooperative and
sensitive to the fact that they have temporarily “moved in” with us and
were always conscious of that fact.”
Jenny reiterated that workmanship and customer satisfaction take high
priority with every project. “Every crew and employee at Peacock and
Company lives by that philosophy.”
