We’re proud to show off anotherSouth Bend Indiana whole-home remodel! Spending time on projects with all kinds of personalities in neighborhoods in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, and Elkhart is so much fun, but we have to admit that the energy in the surrounding Notre Dame neighborhoods is hard to beat. One block away from the fun, history, and prestige of campus, this charming St. Vincent Street whole-home remodel is at home again in the rapidly developing Harter Heights neighborhood.
When our clients, who are Notre Dame Alumni, set their sights on this area and fell in love with this house, they enlisted our help and expertise! This 4 bedroom, 1.5 bath old gem blossomed into an airy, minimalist custom 6 bedroom 3 bathroom dream home with room for the whole family.
old bones, new life
Keeping the integrity of the house was important to our clients! Where many in the neighborhood opt to tear down and build anew, this client chose to keep the main structure intact, and instead expanded on the existing footprint. The living space was completely revitalized by connecting the previously detached garage to the home with a breezeway and expanding this space to include another gathering area, bathroom, and bedroom!
The interior received a complete remodel with a custom kitchen, custom bathrooms, and a primary suite. Features such as a main floor primary suite were included in order to support comfortable living as age becomes a factor in the future.
customized details to respect the past
This remodel is rich in custom details such as trim throughout the house, including archway casing, columns in the arch space, and crown trim to preserve unique lines and angles.
The buttressing in the bedroom to the sitting area is respectful to the character of the home and adds flair made possible by modern know-how. Custom doors with natural maple and natural finish add to the beautiful clean lines and light throughout the home.
Of course, as everyone who has ever loved an old house knows, construction projects often stumble upon unplanned challenges. Outdated sizing and construction methods can pop up when least expected! This home needed a full electrical overhaul and some thoughtful spacing and sizing of can lights in order to fit into smaller spaces.
In addition to completely flipping the interior layout to flow into the new space and better utilize existing ones, we created a brand new staircase with custom-sized stair pieces and a new railing. This completely custom staircase is at home in its surroundings and forever be a staple in our gallery.
Our in-house designers were up to the challenge! Team favorites included the updated fireplace, where one side was removed to create a more open gathering space, along with the general kitchen remodel and bathroom edits. This I-shaped kitchen remodel features a facelift to existing cabinetry with a white finish paint. And that kitchen island? Check out the understated and sleek stools this client chose! The beautiful bathroom remodels feature a luxe walk-in shower and clean, timeless cabinetry and fixtures.
The benefits of our fixed price quoteprocess and detailed early planning stages were huge! There’s an art to designing new updates while respecting the highlights of the existing structure. With the reality of supply chain issues in 2021, performing this feat was challenging, yet rewarding! Keeping surprises at a minimum helped everyone on the team stay happy and excited about this project.
